Delayed Viewing Ratings: ‘Gifted’ Scores for Fox, ‘Good Doctor’ Stands Strong on ABC

The series premiere of “The Gifted” did well for Fox in delayed viewing numbers for Week 2 of the 2017-2018 broadcast season, which began on Oct. 2.

The Gifted” rose from a 1.5 rating in adults 18-49 in the Nielsen Live+Same Day numbers to a 2.8 in Live+7 for an increase of 87 percent. That makes the Fox-Marvel show the network’s best premiere in the L+7 demo for Monday night in nearly two years and top-rated Monday telecast since “The X-Files” event series finale in February 2016.

The Good Doctor” also once again proved to be a formidable ratings force. The show rose from a 2.2 to a 4.3 for an increase of 95 percent. In total viewers, the freshman ABC series went from 10.9 million viewers to 18.1 million for an increase of 66 percent. “The Good Doctor” now has the two biggest total viewer L+7 increases on any network of the new season so far, as well as two of the season’s three biggest L+7 increases in the key demo.

This week also saw multiple shows increase by triple digits in the key demo. Both ABC’s “Designated Survivor” and Fox’s “The Orville” went from a 0.9 to a 2.1 for an increase of 133 percent. “Designated Survivor” was also the only show in the top 25 to more than double its total viewer number, going from 4.8 million to 10 million for a 108 percent increase. ABC’s “How to Get Away With Murder” went from a 0.9 to a 2.1 for a 122 percent increase. CBS shows “Criminal Minds” and “Scorpion” also doubled in the demo, with “Criminal Minds” going from a 1.1 to a 2.2 and “Scorpion” going from 0.8 to a 1.6.

    Review: 'O.G.' on HBO

Jeffrey Wright, the most compelling reason to watch HBO’s new film “O.G.,” is among television’s best actors at switching between codes or manners of being. On “Westworld,” his timeline-toggling android swaps personae so delicately that his performance gains in resonance when recalled in retrospect. (Perhaps that’s why Wright has been so oddly underrated through the [...]
