WASHINGTON — White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders reiterated that women who have accused President Donald Trump of sexual harassment are lying.
Asked by a reporter on Friday whether it “was the official White House position that all of these women are lying,” Sanders said, “Yeah, we have been clear on that from the beginning and the president has spoken on it.”
The claims of sexual harassment were made during the presidential campaign, and Trump denied them. The reporter at Friday’s briefing noted that “at least 16 women” accused Trump of harassment, and that recently Trump called the reports “fake news.”
Attorneys for one of the accusers, Summer Zervos, a former contestant on “The Apprentice,” subpoenaed the Trump campaign for all documents related to her claims and other female accusers. She filed a defamation lawsuit after Trump denied the allegations and said the accusers’ stories were “all made up.”
Asked about the subpoena at a press conference on Oct. 16, Trump said, “All I can say is, it’s totally fake news. It’s just fake. It’s fake. It’s made-up stuff, and it’s disgraceful what happens. But that happens in the world of politics.”
