In all our decades in and out of the music business, this is a promotion like none we’ve ever seen: Boston-based retail chain Newbury Comics will be selling CDs of Beck’s new album, “Colors,” that were autographed by MC Hammer.
MC Hammer had nothing to do with the making of the album and as far as public knowledge goes, the two have never worked together. A Beck rep told Pitchfork that the two are fans of each other, and Hammer issued a statement saying “’Colors’ is a great party record.” Good enough!
The album, out Friday, is Beck’s first full-length since 2014’s “Morning Phase” (which won the Grammy for Album of the Year, as well as Best Rock Album) and has been preceded by three singles: “Dreams,” “Wow” and most recently “Dear Life.” “Colors” will be available in a limited edition deluxe vinyl format featuring two 180g 45rpm red vinyl LPs in a special die-cut gatefold package, with a customizable color transparency cover and 24-page booklet.
Beck recently wrapped a stint opening for U2 and is currently on a headlining tour.
