‘Michael Jackson Scream’ Out Friday With Augmented Reality Experience

Epic/Legacy Recordings have collaborated with Michael Jackson’s estate for a new release called “Michael Jackson Scream,” out today. The album features 13 of the late pop legend’s spookiest, catchiest songs such as “Thriller,” “Ghosts,” and the titular “Scream.” Fans can launch the first-ever augmented reality (AR) experience designed for a Michael Jackson album from an exclusive poster that comes with both the CD and the collectible glow-in-the-dark 2LP vinyl release, which is scheduled to drop Oct. 27.

“Scream” includes a bonus track, “Blood on the Dance Floor X Dangerous,” by remixer The White Panda. Just in time for Halloween, the augmented reality experience matches the haunted theme of the album. Sony and the estate also have partnered with Shazam for the immersive experience. All Shazam users have to do is point the in-app camera at the exclusive poster in order to launch the activation.

The Estate has also joined renowned DJ Steve Aoki for an “official” remix of Jackson’s classic song “Thriller.” The standalone single, “Thriller (Steve Aoki Midnight Hour Remix)” is available to stream here.

Furthermore, “SCREAM” billboards and posters will start to appear worldwide today, each featuring a Shazam logo that app users can use to access a second augmented reality experience. Sony and the Estate collaborated with multi-platform creative studio Flight School for the intiative.

Watch a video tutorial of the augmented reality experience here. The special double vinyl record is available for pre-order here.
