Marilyn Manson Postpones Nine Tour Dates After Onstage Accident

Marilyn Manson has postponed nine dates of his “Heaven Upside Down” tour after he was injured onstage in New York Saturday when a prop fell on him. A rep said he will be recuperating at home in Los Angeles but declined to specify the extent of the singer’s injuries.

The postponed dates include Boston, Chicago, Toronto and Houston. The tour will pick up in Grand Prairie, Texas on Oct. 15.

The accident occurred  about 45 minutes into the band’s set at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom, during their cover of Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).” At the center of the stage was a podium, framed by two giant fake pistols, which Manson began to climb. The podium wobbled dramatically, Manson fell backward and then the prop fell upon him — the band kept playing for several moments until they noticed the singer was not getting up.

Both the house and stage lights remained down for several minutes; roadies placed a dropcloth over the podium. Eventually the house lights came up and an announcer said that “due to injury,” the show was over.

The band’s “Heaven Upside Down” tour launched just two days ago in Maryland and is scheduled to continue through the end of October, lthough it was unclear at press time whether the cancelled dates will be rescheduled ; it was unclear at presstime whether any dates will be postponed due to the injury. The album of the same name is slated for release next week.
