Grammy-winning singer songwriter Maren Morris has released a new song called “Dear Hate (feat. Vince Gill)” in response to the Las Vegas shooting Sunday that killed at least 59 people and wounded over 500. The song was posted on YouTube Monday and released officially Wednesday morning.
Morris announced that 100% of her proceeds from the song will be donated to Las Vegas nonprofits for immediate and long-term needs of victims in the shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival via the Music City Cares fund. “Dear Hate” was written by Morris, Tom Douglas and David Hodges in 2015, two days after the church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina. Lyrics appear below.
Popular country DJ Bobby Bones talked to Variety about the song on Tuesday as part of a long interview about the shooting and its impact on country music fans.
“Maren Morris just put out a song with Vince Gill singing on it called ‘Dear Hate’ that she had written years ago,” he said. “It was actually the first one I ever heard from her, but she recorded it just recently and put it on YouTube and on the download side working with the Music City Cares fund to donate (to victims in Las Vegas). She’s not putting it out as a radio single, but I’ll be playing it.”
