‘Marshall’ Premiere Canceled Following Las Vegas Shooting

Open Road Films has canceled Monday night’s premiere of its drama “Marshall” at Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theatre in the wake of the mass shooting in Las Vegas.

“On this day of national mourning, we have decided to cancel tonight’s scheduled red carpet premiere of ‘Marshall,'” an Open Road spokesperson said. “Instead, tonight’s event will be a private screening of the film for the cast, filmmakers, and invited guests. Our thoughts are with the the victims of the tragedy in Las Vegas, their families, and all of those affected.”

At least 58 people have died and more than 500 were injured after a gunman opened fire on attendees of the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival near the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

“Marshall” has an Oct. 13 release date. Chadwick Boseman stars as Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. Josh Gad stars as lawyer Sam Friedman, along with Kate Hudson, Dan Stevens, James Cromwell, Sterling K. Brown, and Keesha Sharp. Reginald Hudlin is directing and Paula Wagner is producing through her Chestnut Ridge Productions banner along with Jonathan Sanger and Hudlin.

“Marshall” is based on the young Marshall defending a black chauffeur in 1941 against his wealthy socialite employer in a sexual assault and attempted murder trial that quickly became tabloid fodder. Marshall was partnered with Friedman, a young Jewish lawyer.
