Disney-Marvel’s “Thor: Ragnarok” has crossed the $500 million milestone at the global box office in two weeks.
The studio announced Thursday that the third Thor movie has become the 12th consecutive Marvel Cinematic Universe film to reach this threshold and the 14th to do so out of 17 films total.
“Thor: Ragnarok” grossed $6.1 million domestically on Wednesday to lift its six-day total to $147.9 million. The tentpole also earned $14.7 million internationally to bring that number to $354.4 million.
China is the top foreign market with $69.8 million, followed by the U.K. with $29.4 million, South Korea with $27.1 million, Brazil with $20.8 million, and Australia with $17.4 million. About half of the international markets opened during the last week of October.
“Thor: Ragnarok” will maintain North American box office supremacy this weekend amid openings of Fox’s detective story “Murder on the Orient Express” and Paramount’s family comedy “Daddy’s Home 2.”
The sequel should take in at least $50 million at 4,080 locations in its second weekend. The Disney-Marvel tentpole opened with $122.7 million last weekend in the fourth-biggest launch of 2017, then added $8.2 million on Monday and $10.8 million on Tuesday.
“Thor: Ragnarok” halted a box office slump that dogged the business for much of October. Year-to-date domestic gross was down 5.1% to $8.95 billion as of Nov. 6, according to comScore.
