AFM: Media Asia Boards Renny Harlin’s ‘Bodies at Rest’

Hong Kong studio Media Asia has boarded Renny Harlin’s upcoming crime actioner “Bodies at Rest.”

Media Asia joins Wanda Studios as co-producer. Media Asia will also handle worldwide sales outside China, and launch sales at the American Film Market.

The Chinese-language film is made from a script originally written by David Lesser. It sees a forensics expert and his intern assistant ready to call it a day in the morgue when a group of masked thugs break in. The thugs demand access to a body that contains evidence to a crime they recently committed.

The film is set in Hong Kong but is shot in a studio in China. It stars a pan-Chinese cast including Nick Cheung, Richie Jen and Yang Zi.

Principal photography has just begun, and delivery is expected some time in 2018.

Harlin has credits that include “Die Hard 2,” “The Long Kiss Goodnight” and “Cutthroat Island.” He recently directed “Skiptrace” as his first Chinese movie since permanently relocating to Beijing. He is also attached to direct “Legend of the Ancient Sword” for China’s Alibaba.
