Marvel Postpones Opening of Busan Experience

BUSAN — The Marvel Experience Busan that was set to open on Oct. 12, coinciding with the beginning of the Busan Film Festival, has been postponed to Oct. 26. It will now run through Jan. 31, 2018.

The Marvel Experience rights holders, Los Angeles-based Hero Ventures, signed a deal for South Korea with holding company Hans Holdings, the company that also owns local distributor WAW Pictures.

No explanation was offered for the delay. Though the opening will now more closely coincide with the latest Marvel movie release. Marvel’s “Thor: Ragnarok”, directed by Taika Waititi (“Hunt for the Wilderpeople”,) starring Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins and Jeff Goldblum, rolls out across Europe and Asia from Oct. 24. It opens in South Korea on Oct. 25, a day before The Marvel Experience Busan’s new launch date.

Hero Ventures describes the Experience as a “first-person Super Hero adventure through the Marvel universe.” Aimed at family audiences, the Experience is an interactive attraction located over 13,900 square meters featuring a 6,600 square meter dome near Busan station populated by Marvel characters like Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America and Spider-Man.

It also includes a 360-degree, 3D stereoscopic theatre with digitally projected animation, motion-comic book origin stories, virtual reality and holographic simulations, dynamic interactive activities, a 4D motion ride, as well as integrated social media touch points which are woven into the narrative.

Previous iterations of The Marvel Experience have taken place in 2015 in Phoenix, Dallas, San Diego and Philadelphia.
