The British comedian-actor’s one-hour “Ricky Gervais Is Deadly Sirius” will debut Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. ET on SiriusXM. He launched his career 20 years ago as a DJ for a London radio station before ascending to global fame thanks to BBC mockumentary series “The Office” in the early 2000s.
Financial terms of the deal aren’t being disclosed. “SiriusXM made me an offer to return [to radio] that I couldn’t refuse,” Gervais said in a statement. The deal gives him the ability to reach SiriusXM’s 32 million subscribers as well as full editorial control, “my own playlist and absolute freedom of speech,” he added. “It’s the perfect platform for me, and hopefully the listener too.”
The first guests on “Ricky Gervais Is Deadly Sirius” will include musician Noel Gallagher and scientist and noted atheist Richard Dawkins. SiriusXM promises “thought-provoking discussions” about topics that Gervais — himself a vocal atheist — is passionate about: music, science, art, and ethics. He’ll record the show in London and New York, among other places.
Gervais co-created and starred in the original version of “The Office” and was an executive producer on NBC’s hit U.S. version starring Steve Carell. He also created and starred in HBO comedy “Extras” with Stephen Merchant and created, wrote and starred in Netflix’s “Special Correspondents” and film comedy “David Brent: Life on the Road,” reprising his character from “The Office.” His dramedy “Derek” was carried on Netflix and the U.K.’s Channel 4.

Gervais has performed several stand-up comedy tours, including his current Humanity world tour, and has amassed more than 12.8 million Twitter followers. He’s hosted the Golden Globes four times, liberally delivering barbed insults as emcee.
“Ricky Gervais is undoubtedly one of the most uniquely talented comedians in the game,” said Scott Greenstein, SiriusXM’s president and chief content officer. “We’re ecstatic that he’s bringing those many talents to SiriusXM.”
“Ricky Gervais Is Deadly Sirius” will air Tuesdays at 11 a.m. ET on SiriusXM Comedy Greats (channel 94), and will then re-air the same day at 5 p.m. ET on Raw Dog (channel 99). Subscribers also can listen to the show on SiriusXM On Demand through the SiriusXM app for smartphones and other connected devices, as well as on the web.
Gervais is repped by WME. He released a pilot episode for “Ricky Gervais Is Deadly Sirius,” featuring guest comic Mike Birbiglia, earlier this month:
