On a night punctuated by repeats and local pre-emptions for NFL preseason games, NBC performed solidly behind the “America’s Got Talent” results show — which scored a 2.1 rating in adults 18-49 and 10.8 million viewers, pending adjustments — and the Season 3 finale of “The Night Shift,” which earned a 1.2 rating and 5.8 million viewers, tying its season high in the demo. “Night Shift” has become a summer stalwart for the Peacock, but has yet to be renewed for a fourth season.

CBS’ “Big Brother” was down from last week’s season high before adjustments, notching a 1.8 rating and 6.2 million viewers in the 8 p.m. hour, where it was up against repeats of “America’s Got Talent” and “The Goldbergs” on NBC and ABC, respectively, and new episodes of Fox’s two-hour “Masterchef” (1.4 rating, 4.2 million viewers), and The CW’s “Penn and Teller: Fool Us” (0.5 rating, 1.8 million viewers).

At 9 p.m., the “AGT” results show was up against repeats, aside from “Masterchef” and CW’s “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” (0.4 rating, 1.4 million viewers), while at 10 p.m., “Night Shift” aired opposite CBS’ “American Gothic,” which nabbed a 0.5 rating in the demo and 2.6 million viewers.
