NBC’s coverage of “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular” gave the Peacock plenty of bang for its buck on Monday night, with the two-hour special earning a 1.5 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic from 8-10 p.m. and 7 million viewers, followed by a repeat that scored a 1.1 in the demo and an additional 4.6 million watchers — placing both airings higher than any primetime competition. The telecast was up 50% in ratings versus last year’s Saturday airing of the fireworks, hitting a three-year high.
CBS’ rival “Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular” notched a 0.8 rating from 9-11 p.m. and 4.7 million viewers, while Fox’s finale of “Houdini and Doyle” earned a 0.4 and 1.8 million viewers at 9 p.m. The night’s only other original, ABC’s “Mistresses,” was down a two-tenths from last week’s outing with a 0.5 rating and 2.5 million viewers at 10 p.m.
NBC averaged a 1.4 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.3 million viewers overall, with CBS following with a 0.7 score and 4.3 million viewers for the night. ABC earned a 0.5 demo score and 2.5 million viewers, with Fox scoring a 0.4 rating and 1.8 million, and CW bringing up the rear with a 0.2 and 0.7 million viewers.
