‘Maya and Marty’ Gets Solid Start Behind ‘America’s Got Talent’ Return

NBC outpaced the competition on Tuesday night with the return of “America’s Got Talent” and the debut of variety show “Maya & Marty,” starring “Saturday Night Live” alums Maya Rudolph and Martin Short.

“AGT,” which saw Simon Cowell join the judging panel, notched a 2.5 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and averaged 11.5 million viewers overall from 8-10 p.m, down just 0.1 from last season’s premiere and easily topping the night. The premiere of “Maya & Marty” dropped from its lead-in but still won the hour with a solid 1.5 demo score and 6.4 million viewers.

CBS came in second with repeats of “NCIS” (0.9 in adults 18-49 and 7.4 million viewers) and “NCIS: New Orleans” (1.0, 7 million viewers) ahead of the 100th episode of “Person of Interest,” which earned a 1.0 rating and 6.6 million viewers, improving on its 0.8 Monday score.

Unscripted fare was also the flavor of the day on ABC and Fox, with ABC’s “500 Questions” earning a 0.9 in the key demo and 4.2 million viewers against “AGT,” before repeats of “Fresh Off the Boat” from 10-11 p.m. (0.7 in the demo, 2.3 million viewers), while Fox aired “Hotel Hell” (0.8, 2.4 million viewers) and “Coupled” (0.5, 1.5 million viewers).

A repeat of “The Flash” and a new installment of “Containment” nabbed a 0.4 in the demo and 1.1 million viewers over on the CW.
