Much of the attention this summer has gone to Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” the retro-cool series about a group of kids in a small town in 1983 who are faced with a spooky series of occurrences.

On a more serious note, HBO’s “The Night Of” is winning acclaim for Riz Ahmed’s portrayal of a young New Yorker of Pakistani descent who is accused of murder.

Meanwhile, fans of Cameron Crowe’s rock-and-roll intensive movies like “Almost Famous” were curious to see what Showtime’s “Roadies” would look like, and devotees of Danny McBride’s “Eastbound and Down” anticipated his new HBO show, “Vice Principals.”
