Walton Goggins to Replace Joe Manganiello in History’s ‘Six’

Walton Goggins has been cast in History’s miniseries “Six,” Variety has learned. Goggins steps into the lead role left open by the recent departure of actor Joe Manganiello from the project due to an undisclosed health issue.

Produced by The Weinstein Company and A+E Studios, “Six” is an eight-episode miniseries that tells the story of Navy SEAL Team Six, the elite squad responsible for the killing of Osama bin Laden. Goggins will play Rip Taggart, the former SEAL Team Six leader who now patrols an African village to protect its residents from the terrorist group Boko Haram.

“Revenge” alum Barry Sloane, Dominic Adams, Edwin Hodge, Kyle Schmid and Juan Pablo Raba will also star in the project. Production, which had been halted due to Manganiello’s departure, is set to resume at the end of next week.

Goggins recently starred in director Quentin Tarantino’s feature film “The Hateful Eight,” and will star alongside Danny McBride in the upcoming comedy series “Vice Principals,” which will premiere on HBO in July. The actor was nominated for a Primetime Emmy award for his work on FX’s “Justified.” His other TV credits include “Sons of Anarchy” and “The Shield,” both for FX.

William Boyles and David Boyles are writing “Six” and exec producing alongside Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Alfredo Barrios Jr. and George W. Perkins.
