Amazon Studios has released new photos from superhero comedy series “The Tick.” The series is created and executive produced by Ben Edlund, also known for his work on the TV series “Supernatural.” Edlund first debuted “The Tick” in 1986 for New England Comics.

“This has been a labor of love for Amazon, Sony, and all of us,” said Edlund. “The only way for this to have value was if we found a wholly new expression of ‘The Tick’ and Arthur’s story in live-action, and I think we’re on to something!”

According to the official press release, this new live-action adaptation follows an underdog accountant with zero powers in a city owned by a global villain who was thought to be dead. English actor Peter Serafinowicz headlines as the titular superhero, alongside a cast that also includes  Griffin Newman (“Vinyl”), Jackie Earle Haley (“Watchmen”), Valorie Curry (“House of Lies”), Yara Martinez (“Jane the Virgin”) and Brendan Hines (“Scorpion”).

“Visually and thematically this new ‘Tick’ lives in the textures and rhetoric of today’s superhero saturation tsunami — and for it to be something you want to watch for hours, it needed to find its way to a story with heart and stakes, as well as absurdism,” said Edlund.

The series is set to premiere on Amazon Prime beginning August 19.
