Lifetime has greenlit “The 10th Date,” a TV movie with a star-studded ensemble cast, Variety has learned exclusively.
The two-hour romantic comedy follows four friends at different life stages in their search for love. The cast includes Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland, “UnReal’s” Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, “So You Think You Can Dance” host Cat Deeley, Grammy-nominated singer Keri Hilson, Kellee Stewart (“The Soul Man”), Brandon T. Jackson (“Tropic Thunder”) and Meagan Good (“Think Like a Man Too”), who is pulling double duty as a producer on the film, as well.
“The 10th Date” centers around friends Gabby (Good), Nell (Stewart), Billie (Hilson) and Margot (Rowland) who balance their dating life alongside their career ambitions at an upscale website in Los Angeles, under the watchful eye of their editor, Maureen (Deeley). Inspired by the site’s relationship advice column to find “the one,” Gabby and Nell embark on their own journeys towards the elusive “10th date,” the Holy Grail in the dating world when women believe men are finally committed. As the ladies navigate the ups and downs of modern dating, romance, exes and friendships, they learn what they really want out of life and love. Jackson stars as Dante, a creative director at the site, and Bowyer-Chapman is Freddy, Nell’s bisexual boyfriend.
Nzingha Stewart, who wrote the flick “With This Ring” and has directed an episode of “UnReal,” wrote the screenplay and will direct the film. She will serve as executive producer, along with Wendy Finerman (“Forest Gump,” “The Devil Wears Prada”) and Lisa Zupan (“Drumline: A New Beat”). Lina Wong (“Whitney”) and Kyle Clark (“The Craigslist Killer”) will serve as producers.
“The 10th Date” hails from SilverScreen Pictures Inc. with A+E Networks holding worldwide distribution rights.
Currently filming through mid October in Los Angeles, the telepic will premiere in 2017.
