‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 Adds Brett Gelman as Conspiracy Theorist

Comedian Brett Gelman is coming to Hawkins for Season 2 of “Stranger Things,” Variety has confirmed. Gelman will play Murray Bauman, a disgraced journalist-turned-conspiracy theorist who is investigating a cold case in the small Indiana town.

Gelman’s had quite a week. He recently announced he was severing ties with Adult Swim over their support of a show tied to the alt-right and white nationalists, and what he dubbed “the misogyny of their policies.” In addition to appearing in other Adult Swim series, Gelman had a series of specials on the network, the last of which, “Brett Gelman’s Dinner in America,” aired in July.

His other recent TV credits include Amazon’s “Fleabag,” HBO’s “High Maintenance,” and Comedy Central’s “Another Period.”

Gelman joins fellow new faces Sean Astin, Paul Reiser, Linnea Berthelsen, Sadie Sink, and Dacre Montgomery for the second season of the 1980s horror pastiche, which quickly turned into a phenomenon after its June debut on Netflix. The core Season 1 cast will be back as well, including Millie Bobby Brown as telekinetic girl Eleven, who was presumed dead after a fight with an interdimensional monster. Plot details remain scarce, though if the end of last season is anything to go by, poor young Will Byers is likely in for a rough time. Season 2 is currently in production for a 2017 debut.
