Fox is giving new high-concept comedy “Son of Zorn” a heroic launchpad this fall, scheduling a premiere preview on a new date, Sunday, September 11 at 8 p.m. following the season’s first NFL doubleheader on the network. The show will then bow in its regular timeslot on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 8:30 p.m.
The series is a hybrid of live-action and animation about a warrior from a faraway island in the Pacific Ocean – where everything and everyone is animated – who returns to Orange County, CA, to win back his live-action ex-wife and teenage son.
The series hails from 20th Century Fox Television. Reed Agnew and Eli Jorné co-created and co-wrote the pilot and executive produce alongside Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Seth Cohen. Sally Bradford McKenna executive produces and serves as showrunner, while Eric Appel executive produces and directs.
In the series’ special preview episode, “Return to Orange County,” Zorn (Jason Sudeikis) travels from his native land of Zephyria to California to visit his son, Alangulon, aka Alan (Johnny Pemberton). While there, he learns that his ex-wife, Edie (Cheryl Hines), has a fiancé (Tim Meadows). But to reconnect with his son, Zorn stays and obtains a job where, despite his “unique” qualities, he is welcomed by his new boss (Artemis Pebdani).
