Shondaland continues to grow, as the mega production company behind “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal” and more has announced three new executive hires.
Sara Fischer has been tapped as Head of Production; Sandie Bailey has been hired as Director of Branding and Engagement; and Kristen Andersen has been named Vice President of Marketing and Communications.
All three women have previous ties to Shondaland. Fischer comes from ABC Studios where she managed production on the Shondaland shows; Anderson was previously at ABC where she was a publicist on shows including “Scandal” and “How To Get Away With Murder;” and Bailey worked on “Scandal” in the set-decorating department.
“Each of these women has truly made a huge impact on the success of our shows over the last several years,” said Shonda Rhimes in a statement. “As Shondaland continues to expand, I could not be more excited to officially welcome them into the family, where I know they will continue to help invent and invest in our brand.”
In her new role as Head of Production, Fischer will oversee all five of Shondaland’s series that are currently in production, which include “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal,” “How to Get Away with Murder,” “The Catch” and the upcoming period drama “Still Star Crossed.” In addition the overseeing the current series, Fischer will manage production for all development and special projects at the company.
At ABC Studios, Fischer managed production on Shondaland shows, plus other series including “American Crime,” “Of Kings and Prophets” and pilots from the studio. She started her career in commercial production at EUE/Screen Gems and then moved to CBS Sports Production where she was on of the first two women hired. In TV, she has worked on shows including “Remington Steele,” “St Elsewhere,” “thirtysomething” and “My So Called Life.”
Andersen will take on the newly created role of Vice President of Marketing and Communications, overseeing the marketing and publicity campaigns for Shondaland, including promotion surrounding all series and projects in development. Anderson will also manage talent relations efforts and philanthropic initiatives for the company.
At ABC, Andersen was most recently Director of Publicity. She spearheaded the launches of Shondaland’s “Scandal,” “How To Get Away With Murder” and “The Catch,” plus ABC’s much buzzed about “The Muppets.” She also worked on “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Dancing with the Stars,” while at the network. Prior to ABC, Andersen was at Bravo where she managed launches for “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” and “Watch What Happens Live” with Andy Cohen. She was also at AMC Networks where she worked on campaigns for “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad.”
Bailey joins Shondaland as Director of Branding and Engagement, and will manage the overall Shondaland brand, overseeing all events and social media engagement for the company, plus the design, development and execution of all Shondaland merchandise.
Bailey worked in the set-decorating department on “Scandal” for the last five years. She has over 20 years of experience in event management and interior decorating for high-profile clients, and has executed events including fundraisers for presidential candidates and the President of the United States.
