“Running Wild with Bear Grylls” exec producer Del Shoopman has launched a production venture dubbed Jackknife Media with IAC’s Electus.
Deal calls for Shoopman to develop unscripted TV series and other projects with Electus, home of “Bear Grylls.” Shoopman serves as head of production and branding for Bear Grylls Ventures, overseeing all production, branding, licensing and merchandising for the British survivalist who is known for his outdoor adventure series on NBC, Discovery Channel and the U.K.’s ITV and Channel 4.
Shoopman has been working with the Electus team out of its Los Angeles office on various projects for some time. The new deal formalizes that relationship and allows Shoopman to broaden his horizons while retaining his role at Bear Grylls Ventures.
“I’m excited to expand into new areas in unscripted TV that we just can’t have under Bear’s profile,” Shoopman told Variety. “The camping out is starting to take a toll on me,” he joked.
Shoopman has worked with Grylls for the past seven years. His background includes serving a hitch in the Air Force and working for “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” He also created the popular “Video Time Machine” app that was acquired by Shout Factory in 2012.
Electus chief Chris Grant said setting a production deal with Shoopman to expand its purview was an easy call.
“As young producers grow we want to make sure they can find new opportunities within Electus,” Grant said. “Del’s maturation process has been such that he has become an excellent producer. He understands the power of packaging and what it is that makes an idea sell.”
Shoopman is repped by CAA.
