Starz had good ratings news to report from over the weekend, with Saturday’s second-season premiere of “Outlander” more than doubling the audience of its series opener while “The Girlfriend Experience” had a solid showing on Sunday even though it had been available for on-demand and online viewing.

According to Nielsen’s “live plus same-day” estimates, “Outlander” averaged 1.46 million viewers for its regular 9 p.m. telecast, easily topping the show’s August 2014 series premiere (721,000). It set a new Starz record for a series/season premiere, edging out the previous high of 1.43 million for the second-season premiere of “Power.”

The 1.46 million viewers is a 40% increase from the season one “Outlander” average episode premiere in “live plus same-day,” and an approximate 50% increase from the “Outlander” season one finale.

“The Girlfriend Experience” averaged about 350,000 viewers for its first two episodes on Sunday. Combined the show’s eight airings (each episode had three encores) grossed 1.49 million viewers, putting it second among all Starz series, behind “Outlander” in August 2014 (1.76 million).
