‘Prison Break’: Fox Unveils New Footage From Series Revival

Fox unveiled new footage from its limited-series revival of “Prison Break” Sunday at Comic-Con. In the previously unreleased clip, Wentworth Miller’s Michael Scofield secures a piece of gum that he claims is critical to getting a new great escape started.

During the show’s Comic-Con panel, Miller’s co-star Dominic Purcell said that the idea for reviving “Prison Break” was born after he and Miller were reunited on “The Flash.”

Purcell credited Miller for helping to get him cast on “The Flash,” where Purcell played Heatwave and Miller played Captain Cold.

“We got on set, and it was just like we hadn’t been apart for all these years, and we started to warm to the idea of why not ‘Prison Break’?” Purcell said. The actors then approached the producers of the original series about the possibility of a revival. But, he added, “The greenlight essentially came from Wentworth.”

Miller aid that it was important for the new show to have a fresh take on the core concept of the original, crediting the return of “Prison Break” creator Paul Scheuring for ensuring that the new installment would clear that bar.

“I figured that we would have to be true to the show’s DNA, but once Paul Scheuring signed on to spearhead these nine episodes,” Miller’s concerns were put to rest, he said. “I wanted it to be something you remember, but also something radical and different and new.”

Executive producer Vaun Wilmott added that the show’s original themes still ring true today.

“I think it resonates because of family and the bond between the brothers.” he said. “The simple idea that you would do anything to save or help your loved ones is universal.”

Fox announced in January at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that it would revive “Prison Break” as a limited series. The series is based on the original Fox drama series that premiered in 2005.
