AMC has released a chilling new teaser trailer for “Preacher,” the upcoming adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult comic book, which premieres Sunday, May 22 at 10 p.m.

The new promo plays up the mysterious force that impacts the life of West Texas preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) and the troubled people who populate his world, managing to cram plenty of blood and guts into a 20 second spot.

The series also stars Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy, Ruth Negga as Tulip, Lucy Griffiths as Emily, W. Earl Brown as Sherriff Root, Anatol Yusef as DeBlanc, Tom Brooke as Fiore, Derek Wilson as Donnie Schenck and Ian Colletti as Eugene/Arseface (who got his own exclusive preview image reveal at WonderCon).

The 10-episode freshman season is executive produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin. The pilot episode was directed by Rogen and Goldberg, and received its world premiere screening at SXSW in Austin last month.

“We read the comic book from when it first came out, and as soon as we had any power in Hollywood, we tried to make it,” Rogen said at SXSW. “It’s always been in the hands of more successful and more talented people than us, and somehow they all f—ed it up and it rolled downhill into our laps somehow, which I’m very grateful for. I think it was just persistence; we always made it clear that we were interested in it, we were vocal about what big fans we were and we were really just in the right place at the right time.”
