ABC Gives Put Pilot Order to Lord-Miller Comedy ‘The Escape’

ABC has given a put pilot order to a 20th Century Fox TV comedy from writer Dan Sterling and the busy production partnership of Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

“The Escape,” a single-camera vehicle, revolves around a stressed-out urbanite who moves with his 19-year-old son to rural Ohio to live with his father, a retired surgeon who boasts an Indiana Jones-like ruggedness.

Sterling wrote the pilot and exec produces with Lord, Miller and Seth Cohen.

Lord and Miller are exec producing three Fox comedies, Will Forte’s “Last Man on Earth,” the newly launched “Son of Zorn” and the upcoming “Making History.” The pair are also set to direct Disney’s “Hans Solo: A Star Wars Story,” among other film projects.

Sterling is the showrunner on “Last Man on Earth.” The comedy vet’s past credits include Comedy Central’s “The Sarah Silverman Program,” NBC’s “The Office” and Fox’s “King of the Hill.”
