LONDON — India’s Central Bureau of Investigation has charged Peter Mukerjea, the former chief executive officer of Rupert Murdoch’s Star India television network, with the murder of his stepdaughter, Sheena Bora.

Bora was the daughter of Mukerjea’s wife, Indrani, from an earlier relationship. Borawas murdered in April 2012, but the remains of her burnt body were found only last May. She was 25.

Indrani Mukerjea was arrested in August and accused of the murder, along with her driver Shyamvar Rai and former partner Sanjeev Khanna. Peter Mukerjea was taken into police custody in November. His appeal for bail was rejected on Feb. 12.

Peter Mukerjea was the CEO of the Star India network from 1999-2007. Indrani Mukerjea was in the company’s human resources department. They married in 2002.

After leaving Star in 2007, Indrani Mukerjea established news channel INX News, and Peter Mukerjea managed its two specialty TV channels, 9X and Bollywood music channel 9XM. The Mukerjeas exited the company in 2009, with the Zee group and Singaporean sovereign wealth fund Temasek and other investors buying their stake.

Peter Mukerjea told the Indian media that he was not aware of the conspiracy and has nothing to do with the murder.
