‘Modern Family’ Co-Creator Shares Optimistic Message in Wake of Trump Win

The stars of “Modern Family” are some of the latest in Hollywood to speak out against Donald Trump’s Election Day victory.

Series co-creator Steve Levitan took to his Facebook page, which is private to the public, to write an emotional letter concerning his two daughters. Both sent Levitan text messages following the election results, which he reposted on the social media platform.

“I’ve been searching for a bright side all day and finally found it, delivered via text from my daughters,” wrote Levitan. “First, Allie (21) wrote begging me to give whatever inheritance she has coming her way instead to help fight climate change.”

He then went on to quote the text message he recieved from his other daughter, Hannah.

“We’ve always known there are men out there who believe they have a right to our bodies. We’ve known by the ass-grabs in dark bars and the sexual assaults of our friends,” wrote Hannah. “We’ve always known that there are people out there who believe they are superior just because of the color of their skin. We see their digital breadcrumbs, their anonymous comments, their slurs plastered on the sides of buildings.”

Levitan went on to end the letter by saying, “We’re going to be ok, folks, because our daughters and sons are not going to take this lying down. I’m a proud and heartened dad.  The future is bright.”

Other “Modern Family” actors took to Twitter to express their disappointment with Tuesday’s results, including Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ariel Winter, and Sarah Hyland.

“I’ve dealt with bullies my whole life. I’ve been called terrible things. I’ve only come out stronger. I got this. We’ve got this,” Ferguson wrote.

“America, you have failed. What the actual f–k. Devastating. I won’t recognize @realDonaldTrump as our president, ever. #dumptrucktrump,” said Winter.

“I will not kneel. I will continue to fight for equality. I will spread love. I will be a warrior of education & kindness. I will NOT kneel,” wrote Hyland.
