ABC Stations Renew ‘Live with Kelly and Michael,’ ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’

“Live with Kelly and Michael” has set a long-term renewal with the ABC-owned station group, assuring that Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan will keep yakking in daytime through the 2019-20 season.

“Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” also has been renewed by its ABC-owned incumbent stations through the 2016-17 season. Both “Live” and “Millionaire” are distributed in first-run syndication by Disney/ABC Home Entertainment and Television Distribution. “Live” is carried by all eight ABC O&Os in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston, Raleigh-Durham, N.C., and Fresno, Calif. “Millionaire” airs on the ABC O&Os with the exception of WLS-TV Chicago.

“Millionaire,” one of the franchises that kicked off the contemporary wave of reality TV and international format hits,  is heading into its 15th season in syndication. “The Bachelor” host Chris Harrison took over hosting duties this season from Terry Crews.

“Live” ranks as one of daytime TV’s most successful syndie franchises ever. The ayem chat-fest began its run in national syndication in 1988 with Regis Philbin and Kathie Lee Gifford at the helm. Ripa replaced Gifford in 2001; Strahan succeeded Philbin in 2012.

“We are exceptionally proud of ‘Live’s’ unparalleled success and are thrilled to extend our highly valued partnership with the ABC Owned Stations for many more years to come,” said Janice Marinelli, president of Disney/ABC Home Entertainment and Television Distribution. “We are also very pleased to extend our relationship with their strong stations on ‘Millionaire,’ which continues to resonate with viewers across the country.”
