CBS is producing a sports agency comedy series from LeBron James’ production company SpringHill Entertainment, Variety has learned.
“Thankless” follows a group of ambitious assistants who pursue their dreams at a sports agency in Chicago.
The hybrid comedy hails from writers Craig Gerard and Matt Zinman, who will serve as executive producers, along with James and his business partner Maverick Carter.
Warner Bros. Television, where SpringHill Entertainment is under a deal, is the studio.
“Thanksless” is the latest TV project to come from James. The NBA superstar is an exec producer on “Survivor’s Remorse” at Starz. His SpringHill Entertainment is behind NBC’s upcoming Chris Hardwick-hosted trivia show “The Wall,” and in development at NBC is a comedy series and a drama series, both in contention for the 2017-2018 television season.
Gerard and Zinman are both familiar to CBS, as alums on “How I Met Your Mother.”Last season, the writing duo penned the comedy pilot “Good Fortune” for NBC, though it was not picked up to series. Their other credits include “A to Z,” “Grandfathered” and “Telenovela.” They are repped by UTA.
