Lady Gaga to Sing National Anthem at the Super Bowl

Lady Gaga will sing the national anthem at Super Bowl 50, it was announced Tuesday.

The addition of the singer contributes to the big game’s already star-studded musical lineup: Coldplay and Beyonce will play during the halftime show. Additional acts including Bruno Mars, Adele, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and more have been rumored to be participating in the Pepsi spectacle as well.

Gaga is having a spectacular 2016. She won a Golden Globe for her performance on “American Horror Story: Hotel,” she’s nominated for an Academy Award for best original song (for “Til It Happens To You,” a collaboration with Diane Warren that appeared in “The Hunting Ground”) and she’s slated to perform a David Bowie tribute at the Grammy Awards later this month.

Past performers of the national anthem for the Super Bowl include such notable acts as Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Billy Joel and Cher. Idina Menzel performed the song for last year’s big game.

Marlee Matlin will perform the anthem in American Sign Language alongside Gaga’s vocal performance.

The pregame and halftime shows are NFL Network productions, executive produced by Ricky Kirshner.

Super Bowl 50 will unfold at Levi’s Stadium in the San Francisco Bay Area on Sunday, Feb. 7 on CBS.
