Lionsgate and New Regency have recruited E! veteran Kevin Plunkett to head their newly created joint TV production venture.

Plunkett, formerly senior VP of scripted programming for E!, will work out of New Regency’s Century City offices and report to a joint board of the two companies. The goal is for Plunkett to mine New Regency’s library of IP for TV series prospects. Lionsgate and New Regency unveiled the partnership in January.

Lionsgate TV execs worked closely with Plunkett during the past two years on the E! drama series “The Royals.” He’ll serve as exec VP and head of television at Lionsgate-New Regency.

“Kevin is a gifted and highly experienced creative executive with a track record of successful series, and our team has enjoyed working with him on numerous projects, most recently on our hit drama ‘The Royals,’ ” said Lionsgate TV Group chairman Kevin Beggs. “We know from our work with Kevin that his experience developing fan-favorite shows coupled with New Regency’s assets is a winning combination that will lead to high quality, buzzworthy series that networks will want and audiences will love.”

Lionsgate will handle international distribution of projects that come from the partnership.

“Kevin is a well-respected programming executive with excellent relationships throughout the industry and the perfect creative fit for this endeavor,” New Regency chairman Yariv Milchan and COO Jonathan Fischer said in a statement.

Plunkett joined E! in the fall of 2011. Before that he spent seven years at ABC and ABC Studios, working in development and on digital content.
