Joe Manganiello has joined the cast of action military drama “Six,” which follows the brotherhood of Navy SEAL Team Six, Variety has confirmed.

The “True Blood” alum will play Rip Taggart, a onetime leader of the SEAL Team Six squad who now patrols an African village to protect its residents from Boko Haram.

The eight-episode drama will also star Barry Sloane (“Revenge”), Dominic Adams, Edwin Hodge, Kyle Schmidt and Juan Pablo Raba.

William Boyles (“Cast Away”) and military special operations vet David Boyles are writing the series hailing from A+E Studios and the Weinstein Company, and exec producing alongside Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Alfredo Barrios Jr. and George W. Perkins.

Speaking of the series at the Television Critics Association press tour last month in Pasadena, Calif., A&E and History president Paul Buccieri said, “The backdrop surrounding this elite team of American soldiers — from their lives at home to the astonishing bravery they display serving our country — provides an amazing canvas for stories that deserve to be told.”
