History Developing ‘50 States’ Documentary Series With Asylum Entertainment (EXCLUSIVE)

History is developing a documentary series from Asylum Entertainment that will tell the unique stories of the 50 U.S. states. Under the working title “50 States,” the series will ask directors to explore the history of their home states, with a different director focusing on a different state in each episode.

The directors will each employ his or her own unique filmmaking style to tell the stories that will make up the series. The directors will be announced at a later date.

Asylum Entertainment will produce for History. Steve Michaels and Jonathan Koch will executive produce for Asylum. Sean Boyle will executive produce for History.

Asylum Entertainment is the producer of several documentaries in ESPN’s “30 for 30” series, including “Trojan War” by director Aaron Rahsaan Thomas, which explores head football coach Pete Carroll’s nine seasons at the University of Southern California, and “Tonya and Nancy: The Price of Gold,” by director Nanette Burstein, about Olympic figure skaters Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan. The company is also responsible for Reelz miniseries “The Kennedys,” starring Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes, and its upcoming sequel “After Camelot,” as well as Lifetime’s “The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe,” starring Kelli Garner and Susan Sarandon. It is also the company behind the National Geographic series “Breakthrough.”
