DNCE, the band led by frontman Joe Jonas, will pay a visit to “Grease: Live,” and Ed Begley Jr. will have a guest role on “Better Call Saul,” in today’s TV news roundup.

Casting:

Joe Jonas‘ pop-disco group DNCE will make a special cameo appearance on Fox’s “Grease: Live.” DNCE, which formed in the summer of 2015, is fronted by Jonas and includes South Korean guitarist JinJoo, bassist and keyboardist Cole Whittle, and drummer Jack Lawless. The group will be featured in the iconic high school dance scene as Johnny Casino and the Gamblers. “Grease: Live” airs on Fox Jan. 31.

Ed Begley Jr. is set to join the second season of AMC’s “Breaking Bad” prequel, “Better Call Saul.” According to EW, Begley Jr. will appear in multiple episodes as a man named Clifford, an “authority figure who has the power to make many of Jimmy’s dreams come true, if Jimmy can only play ball,” according to co-creator Peter Gould. The veteran actor will make his first appearance in the season 2 premiere, airing Feb. 15.

“The Following” actress Mouzam Makkar has scored a recurring spot in the second half of “The Vampire Diaries” Season 7, reports TVLine. Makkar will recur as Alex, a cocky researcher who heads up a mysterious organization. She will make her first appearance on the CW show during episode 14. “The Vampire Diaries returns with new episodes on on Jan. 29.

Ratings:

Disney’s “Live with Kelly and Michael” closed 2015 on a ratings high, logging its highest-rated week of the season during the Dec. 28-Jan. 1 frame.

Nielsen estimates that “Live” averaged a 1.8 rating in the key demo of women 25-54, the show’s top score score since last February and the highest number for any syndicated talkshow this season. The show’s 3.4 rating in households, a 10% jump week to week, was also the show’s best since February.

Key to the big week was the daytime series’ “Viewers’ Choice End of the Year Show” on Dec. 29. It pulled a 3.6 household rating, a 2.0 in women 25-54 and 4.95 million total viewers — season highs in all categories.
