In today’s TV news roundup, Carolyn Hennesy joins the cast of “Gilmore Girls,” CMT’s scripted series “Nashville” casts Murray Bartlett, “Impractical Jokers” is being brought to you live for the season finale and Jerrod Carmichael is publishing his first book.

“General Hospital” star Carolyn Hennesy has joined Netflix’s “Gilmore Girls” revival series in a recurring role, Variety has learned exclusively. The Daytime Emmy nominated actress will play Toni, a member of The DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). Described as upper-crust, someone who likes to keep things orderly and does not appreciate dissension, Toni has been in the “club” for years with Emily Gilmore (Kelly Bishop). Hennesy’s other credits include “Cougar Town” and “Revenge.” She is repped by BRS/Gage Talent Agency and Justice & Ponder.

“Nashville” casts Murray Bartlett as new recurring role on the CMT Network’s new scripted drama. Bartlett will play the role of Jakob Fine, a very handsome, charismatic and successful men’s fashion designer. Following ABC’s cancellation of the show, CMT has picked up the series for a fifth season, and the show is being executive produced by Marshall Herskovitz, Ed Zwick, Steve Buchanan and Callie Khouri. Bartlett is represented by Paradigm and Anonymous Content.

Nitro Circus and truTV partner to present “Impractical Jokers Live: Nitro Circus Spectacular.” The event will be a two-hour live special that will cap the fifth season of the show, which will be broadcast live from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Extreme sport’s superstar Travis Pastrana will host the event and the show’s cast Joe, Murr, and Sal will be the subjects. Whoever can muster up enough courage to perform the ridiculous stunts will take home bragging rights and proceeds for their favorite charity. Tickets for the event go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, Sep. 27 at 10 a.m. ET via Ticketmaster.

Random House will publish the stand-up comic, creator, writer and star of NBC’s “The Carmichael Show” Jerrod Carmichael’s first book. The book has yet to be titled, but is aimed for an in-depth look at Carmichael’s personal encounters, trials and tribulations that have landed him where he is today.
