Stars were hot on the red carpet Sunday night. Literally.

The forecast was in the high ’80s Sunday afternoon in downtown Los Angeles, and talent walking the Emmy red carpet were sweating. Though the heat occupied much of the conversation among nominees, the temperature didn’t stop anyone from talking about — what else? — television.

Best actress nominee Taraji P. Henson spoke to Variety about Season 3 of “Empire,” revealing a bit about guest star Mariah Carey’s storyline. “People think we are going to cat-claw each other, but we’re actually not — she’s a Cookie ally,” Henson said, adding that the upcoming season will kill yet another person off. “Someone dies,” she said, staying mum. “If tell you, I might die.”

Meanwhile, “Transparent” creator Jill Soloway — who won an Emmy tonight for directing — gave a little scoop to Variety, introducing a new character on the carpet with transgender actress Alexandra Grey, whose storyline intersects with Jeffrey Tambor’s. “The first episode, a little spoiler is that it’s Maura only and Alexandra. It’s a real surprise,” Soloway said. Grey also told Variety that she recently filmed an episode of upcoming CBS drama “Doubt,” alongside trans Emmy nominee Laverne Cox.

“Orphan Black’s” Tatiana Maslany, who won tonight, spoke about the end of her show coming up, admitting that she’s sad to see it go. She also spoke about her plans after the series.
