The BBC has announced “Doctor Who’s” new companion for the 10th installment of the popular series.

Pearl Mackie will play “Bill” alongside star Peter Capaldi.

“I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Doctor Who family,” she said. “It’s such an extraordinary British institution, I couldn’t be prouder to call the TARDIS my home!”

Mackie replaces Jenna Coleman whose character Clara Oswald exited the series last year.

Coleman joined the show in 2012, and starred alongside two Doctors, Matt Smith and Capaldi, who joined the show in 2014. She had asked to leave “Doctor Who” to play Queen Victoria in a new ITV new drama.

Exec producer and writer Steven Moffat is also leaving the series after next season. He will be replaced by “Broadchurch’s” Chris Chibnall.

“Doctor Who” returns for a 10th season in 2017.
