“Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove” will air this fall on Discovery Channel, home to the flagship series that just entered its 12th season.
The spinoff was announced Thursday at the Discovery Communications upfront in New York City.
Unlike the first “Deadliest Catch,” which is shot in Alaska, the new iteration will follow the brave fisherman in Newport, Oregon, one of the last remaining fishing towns along the edge of the notoriously violent “Graveyard of the Pacific” that stretches from Oregon to British Columbia. Here, generations of Dungeness crab fishermen and their families sacrifice everything that they have, including life itself, to carve an existence from the sea.
The new series hails from Original Productions, creators of the original “Deadliest Catch” series.
Also at the Discovery Communications upfront today, a “Mythbusters” follow-up series was announced with a reality competition series that will seek to find new hosts for the popular franchise.
