CBS is staying in business with two of their proven hit-makers: “How I Met Your Mother” creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. The network has given a pilot production commitment to a new comedy series from the duo, Variety has learned.
The untitled project follows Izzy and Chris, two 20-somethings who are raising their newborn daughter and merging their loud families — one Puerto Rican, one Italian.
Bays and Thomas are writing the pilot with co-writer Chris Distefano, who inspired the project. All three scribes are serving as executive producers on the potential series, along with Brian Bockrath, the development executive for Bays and Thomas’ banner.
The multi-cam/hybrid laffer hails from Sony Television where Bays and Thomas are under an overall deal. Last summer, the pair inked a multi-million deal after a bidding war between all studios, resulting in a three-year pact with Sony.
Bays and Thomas created “How I Met Your Mother” in 2005 and the show ran until 2014, becoming one of the most successful broadcast sitcoms of all time.
