Carson Daly to Co-Host Tuesday’s 9 A.M. ‘Today’ as Billy Bush Suspension Continues

Billy Bush Today

Carson Daly has been tapped to co-host Tuesday’s broadcast of the 9 a.m. hour of NBC’s “Today” program ,according to two people familiar with the situation, suggesting that Billy Bush’s suspension is likely to continue for some time as NBCUniversal considers what to do about the recent controversy that has engulfed the anchor and its flagship network.

Daly is expected to fill in on the program tomorrow and co-host with Tamron Hall, though whether or not he will serve multiple days during that hour remains to be seen, one of these people said.

Bush has been suspended from the program pending a review, NBC News announced during Monday’s broadcast of “Today,” the result of remarks he made while talking to Donald Trump during a 2005 “Access Hollywood” outtake that recently surfaced showing Bush and the now-Republican presidential candidate discussing sexual harassment of women in extremely lewd terms.

Bush’s ultimate fate remains to be determined, according to people familiar with the network. Various scenarios are being considered, these people said. NBC bet heavily on the former “Access Hollywood” anchor, enlisting him in an effort to revamp the 9 a.m. broadcast and make it more directly competitive with the breezier syndicated ABC program “Live,” which is hosted by Kelly Ripa and competes with the 9 a.m. program in many markets.

NBC has not elaborated upon the terms of the review and not offered any details about how long Bush’s suspension is expected to last. On Friday, after reports of the “Access Hollywood” tape surfaced, Bush issued a statement of apology, noting he was “embarrassed and ashamed” by the incident.
