ABC Orders Game Show ‘Big Fan’ from Jimmy Kimmel and Banijay Studios

ABC has ordered “Big Fan,” a new half-hour comedic game show based on “Jimmy Kimmel Live’s” segment “Who Knows?”

Jimmy Kimmel will produce the series with Banijay Studios North America, and Andy Richter will host. Each episode of the half-hour, studio-based game show will feature one celebrity and three of his or her biggest super fans. The super fans will go head-to-head to see who knows more about the episode’s featured celebrity. The succeeding super fan will move on to the final round in an ultimate showdown, celebrity vs. super fan, to see who knows most about the celebrity. If the super fan wins, their prize is a priceless experience with the celebrity they admire most.

“This show is a lot of fun,” said Jimmy Kimmel. “Andy Richter is a great host, and I can’t think of a better way to terrify celebrities.”

“Night after night, ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ delivers a slew of great comic bits. There were many to choose from, but ‘Who Knows…?’ featuring Katy Perry stood out as one that could be expanded into a really unique comedic game show concept that gives fans at home a chance to be part of the experience,” stated David Goldberg, Banijay Group President and Banijay Studios North America CEO. “Thankfully, Jimmy and ABC agree. Collaborating with Jimmy and Andy, two of the funniest people on television, on our first game-show format under the new Banijay Studios North America banner, is very exciting.”

Jimmy Kimmel; Banijay Group President and Banijay Studios North America CEO David Goldberg, and Caroline Baumgard, chief creative officer of Banijay Studios North America, will serve as executive producers.

This isn’t the first late night segment to be expanded into series form — Spike’s popular “Lip Sync Battle” is a spinoff of a popular segment first introduced on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”

Cocaine’s a hell of a drug, but you’re not seeing things: That, indeed is Showtime’s old 1980s-era logo pasted all over marketing materials and promos for “Black Monday,” a tongue-in-cheek tale of the excesses exhibited by Wall Street traders in the lead-up to the stock market crash of 1987. The logo, which hasn’t been in [...]

    TV Review: 'Russian Doll'

This is a particularly tricky review to write, but not because the merits of “Russian Doll” are at all ambiguous. Bringing to bear a talented cast on a story of real geopolitical significance, “Black Earth Rising,” Netflix’s drama about the long-tail aftermath of the Rwandan genocide, would seem to have had the potential to be one of 2019’s early television successes. Which makes its falling short all the more painful and pronounced. The show, previously [...]
