“Arrow” takes a trip down memory lane with the Diggle brothers on Wednesday night, forcing John (David Ramsey) to grudgingly place his trust in his brother Andy (guest star Eugene Byrd) after an enemy of their wartime past, an agent of the criminal organization Shadowspire, pays a visit to Star City. The episode will also feature flashbacks to John and Andy’s time in Afghanistan, giving more context to what Shadowspire has been up to.
In Variety’s exclusive sneak peek at the episode, titled “AWOL,” John, Andy and Lyla (Audrey Marie Anderson) pay a visit to Lyla’s old stomping grounds at ARGUS, where Amanda Waller (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) is even less inclined to trust Andy than his brother is.
Elsewhere in the hour, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and Oliver (Stephen Amell) are trying to adjust to life with Felicity’s injury, forcing our wheelchair-bound tech genius to reconcile with her own past, back when she was an anarchic brunette hacker. “Arrow’s” midseason sizzle reel showed us a glimpse of Felicity’s former self, and executive producer Wendy Mericle recently gave Variety a hint about what we can expect on Felicity’s road to recovery.
“In the wake of this injury, she’s going through a little bit of a dark time of her own,” Mericle previewed. “She’s questioning some of her earlier decisions and when she encounters that version of her old self, it’s going to be in a very emotional and grounded context about how she got where she got to with the team and working at Queen Consolidated and, like anybody would after going through a tragic event like that, really looking back at her life choices and doing some hard thinking and reevaluating.”
