Starline Seals TV Deals in U.K., Germany, Spain for Jonas Kaufmann Concert Film (EXCLUSIVE)

Starline Entertainment has closed a raft of international television and VOD deals for “Jonas Kaufmann: An Evening with Puccini,” a concert event film produced by Arts Alliance that played in cinemas worldwide earlier this year.

Sky has taken U.K. broadcast rights for the La Scala opera production featuring the acclaimed singer, with Sky Arts additionally taking rights in Germany and New Zealand. Starline has also closed a deal with DTS (CanalXtra) in Spain. Further rights have been to sold to HRT for Croatia, Czech TV for Czech Republic, YLE for Finland, NRK for Norway, and SVT in Sweden. Air Emirates has secured the film for in-flight broadcast.

“We’re delighted with the work Starline has put into ensuring this excellent film, of which we’re immensely proud, enjoys continued success across TV and VOD platforms,” said Nick Varley, CEO of Arts Alliance.

Directed by classical music veteran Brian Large (“The Metropolitan Opera Presents”), the film’s centerpiece is a performance of Puccini arias given by Jonas Kaufmann, widely considered to be one of the world’s greatest living tenors, at Milan’s famous home of Italian opera, La Scala. The event has gained almost legendary status, with its five encores by Kaufmann and 40 minutes of applause. Complementing the concert, Kaufmann offers his own personal profile of Puccini, a composer with whom he feels a special affinity.

Starline came on board to handle television and VOD sales to the concert film in March. The deals were negotiated by Starline’s Worldwide Director of Distribution, Julie Delaney.

“Arts Alliance has produced a real gem for music lovers and it’s wonderful, though no surprise, to see so much enthusiastic interest,” said Delaney.

Starline will be handling sales on remaining territories at this year’s MIPCOM, which runs Oct. 17-20 in Cannes.
