European pay-TV operator Sky has launched its entertainment channel Sky 1 in Germany and Austria, which joins its existing services, Sky Atlantic, Sky Arts and Sky Kids, as well as its library of on-demand content. Sky 1’s offering includes drama from HBO and Showtime, as well as local and European Sky shows.

Sky 1 will be available exclusively for Sky customers through linear and on-demand viewing via Sky Go, Sky On Demand and Sky Ticket.

Sky 1 in Germany launches this evening with the first episode of the local version of cooking show “Masterchef,” produced exclusively for the channel, followed by the 11th series of “Supernatural.” Other programming highlights include Sky original productions “The Tunnel: Sabotage” and “Hooten & the Lady”; the U.K. documentary “Dogs Might Fly”; political drama series “Madam Secretary”; and action-packed series “Shooter.” Sky 1 will also show exclusive German premieres of drama series “Victoria,” “Medici: Masters of Florence” and “24: Legacy” starting later in the year.

Elke Walthelm, executive VP content at Sky Deutschland, said: “Sky 1 is our new flagship channel for outstanding entertainment programming. Customers will have access to popular brand-new series and shows that the entire family will enjoy, as well as shows on demand.
