Discovery Group Italy has licensed hit game show format “Boom!” from Keshet International in a move indicative of its expansionist ambitions in Italy’s generalist TV landscape.

Endemol Shine Italy will produce “Boom!” for Discovery’s recently rebranded and relaunched channel Nove. The format combines mind and body challenges in a high octane show that sees contestants race against a clock displayed on a replica bomb in the middle of the studio. Plan is for “Boom!” to air in a daily access prime-time slot on Nove starting this fall.

“We want to bring Discovery’s DNA and creativity into Italian general entertainment TV,” she added in a statement.

Three years after expanding its free-to-air Italian footprint, Discovery now has six fevee channels and commands a more than 6% Italian audience share, making it the country’s third-largest TV player.

According to Keshet International, more than 500 episodes of “Boom!” have been commissioned worldwide to date. Fox started airing a U.S. adaptation last summer to robust results.
