Fox Network Group has struck a deal with Wowow group for pan-Asian rights to five TV mini series from the Japanese pay-TV group.

The five series, produced under the Drama W label, will be aired on SCM, the Fox network previously known as Star Chinese Movies. Fox says that SCM has rights for Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and 12 other territories covered by its footprint. They will go to air from May 1.

It is the first time that SCM has acquired and broadcast mini series. It follows a recent announcement that SCM wants to start producing original Chinese-language series. SCM’s current business is focused on premiering box-office hits from Hong Kong, Mainland China and Taiwan.

The series are: “Stars In The Deep,” a drama about Japan’s first woman submarine captain; financial crime drama “Shingari;” “Cocoon Of Stone,” a crime story adapted from a novel by Kazushi Asami; “Enka-Gold Rush,” a high school set thriller based on a novel by Hiroyuki Kurokawa; and “Presumption Of Guilt,” a conspiracy drama about a man wrongly convicted of a child murder.
