A slew of comedians, such as Adam Conover, Paul F. Tompkins, Josh Brener, Adam Savage, and Cameron Esposito — named one of Variety‘s “10 Comics to Watch” in 2016 — were among those in attendance for the mid-season premiere of the truTV’s “Adam Ruins Everything” on Thursday at The Library at Hollywood’s Redbury Hotel.
“We’re trying to do some bigger, more important topics, and other than that we’re just trying to make a bigger, better version of the same show,” Conover said. “We’re just trying to put the rest in and make the funniest, most informative show we can.”
Brener, best-known for his role on “Silicon Valley,” appreciates the show’s ability to present heady topics in a light and amusing way. “I’m a science geek,” Brener said, “so anything factoid-based I’m just a sucker for. I was a huge fan of ‘Cosmos’ and this is like a fun, silly cosmos at a micro level.”
Tompkins, of “BoJack Horseman” and “Comedy Bang! Bang!” fame, was effusive about the show’s titular performer. “The thoroughness of the show and the fact that he can be humorous at the same time is really tremendous,” he said.
At the beginning of the evening, celebrity attendees walked a red carpet emblazoned with a message in all-capital letters: “The red carpet is basically one big ad.” The screening was followed by a reception, which offered guests a number of activities, including a blind wine-tasting stand that illustrated just how hard it was to tell “good” and “bad” wine apart.
