Broadway’s ‘The Humans’ Leads Lucille Lortel Awards Nominations (FULL LIST)

The Humans,” the Stephen Karam play that had a well-received Off Broadway run before its current Broadway transfer, leads the pack of 2016 nominations for the Lucille Lortel Awards, the annual theater trophies that focus on Off Broadway fare.

In its Off Broadway incarnation, “Humans,” a serious contender for the Tony Awards, notched Lortel nods that include acting nominations for cast members Reed Birney and Jayne Houdyshell, although no nomination for outstanding play. Another potential Tony contender, “Eclipsed” — the Lupita Nyong’o outing that played at the Public Theater before moving to Broadway — earned three nominations, including one for outstanding play, but no acting noms.

Notable actors to make the cut this year include Ed Harris (“Buried Child”), Phylicia Rashad (“Head of Passes”), Michael C. Hall (“Lazarus”) and Georgia Engel (“John”).

The 2016 Lucille Lortel Awards are set to take place May 1 at NYU Skirball Center in downtown Manhattan.
