Beauty Website Confuses Whoopi Goldberg for Oprah Winfrey at the Oscars

Total Beauty, a website that offers beauty advice, fitness tips and product reviews, confused Whoopi Goldberg for Oprah Winfrey in a tweet that has since been deleted. The beauty company tweeted a photo of Goldberg, who on at the 88th Annual Academy Awards red carpet, with the caption “We had no idea Oprah was tatted, and we love it. #Oscars.”

While the tweet is no longer up, over 1,000 people had retweeted the photo before it got deleted. Other media outlets and Twitter users quickly took notice, calling out Total Beauty for its mistake and screencapping the snafu for posterity.

Goldberg recently started trending on twitter, and some users are tweeting with the caption #ThatsNotOprah.

Total Beauty tweeted an apology, admitting there were no excuses for the mistake.


While Goldberg has hosted the awards show a total of four times, she most recently hosted in 2002. “The View” host, who won an Academy Award for “Ghost” in 1991, offered some advice to Sunday’s host Chris Rock, comparing the Academy Awards to a “race horse ready to go and run.”

“He knows what he’s doing,” Goldberg told Ryan Seacrest. “It’s one of those things when people have done it before you know the first six minutes are yours and the rest of the night people don’t care. They wanna know, ‘Did I win?’ And once you now that it’s all good.”

Goldberg also admitted that she did not consider skipping the Oscars. “Boycotts – to me – are a pain in the butt. If you want to [boycott] … don’t go see the movie. … If we’re not here, then we’re really not here.”
